Blog Inspiration & Summany

The purpose of this blog is to showcase my written work and is designed for easy navigation for readers seeking to learn more about myself and my ability to communicate.

As a Business Development Manager and Cross-Cultural Trainer for a Language Services company, I am all-too familiar with the need for high-caliber communication.  This understanding and appreciation for communication has only increased as I pursue my Bachelors Degree in Communication at Ashford University.

The inspiration for this blog title came from Eleanor Roosevelt as she is credited with saying “Understanding is a two-way street.”  I believe this quote is applicable to communication as both the sender and the recipient must be invested in the message being understood.  A common misconception is that the speaker or “sender” is solely responsible for the message being received, however this is not true.  The sender starts with the upfront responsibility as they craft their message, taking into consideration who their audience is and how they can build trust and credibility.  However, the recipient or “audience” is also responsible to ensure that communication occurs by asking questions, remaining receptive and listening to the message rather than only hearing the words that are spoken.

The audience for this blog is two fold.  Foremost, I hope to demonstrate my communication skills to potential employers to gain work after completing my degree.  In this process, I also hope to establish myself as a trusted source for insight and information on the topic of communication, thus attracting readers in the communication field and joining the network of communication professionals.
